ABOUT ME

BEHIND THE LENS

I have loved photography for many years, but my time available to devote to it has waxed and waned with family and job duties.  I recently rededicated myself to becoming a better photographer and am working hard to learn types of photography that I don't have as much experience with.

I love to capture landscapes and nature scenes as I am hiking, skiing or paddleboarding, including getting up close and personal with bugs and wildflowers. I have played around informally with portraits, mostly with my own family.  I am working to gain more skills and experience with portraits of both people and animals, trying to capture their unique personalities on film.  I am also exploring more action, travel and macro photography. I love available light photography, but am also learning about studio lighting and flash.

I shoot with what I can afford. My first SLR was a very basic Pentax K1000 film camera and I developed some of my own photos. My first DSLR was a Nikon D60 that I shot with until this year when I upgraded to a Nikon D5300 which I love. Now I shoot most of my portraits with a Sony a6000 mirrorless and use my Nikon for wildlife and action shots. It's not professional equipment at all, but I try to push my equipment to its best capabilities. Now to get better lenses!

I hope you enjoy my photography site and that these photos remind you to be grateful for the beauty of the world and the wonder that surrounds us.
